The girls kicked off their 2018 season at the Spring-Ford invitational.  After a tough go last season the girls were hungry to show that their tough summer training paid off and it certainly did.  Gina Mattera went hard off the start line and quickly joined the lead group.  Sarah Mathewson, Morgan Chmielenski and Maddie Hughes joined the chase pack and slowly picked off runners each mile.  The battle for 5th place on the team was between two freshman, Hannah Pegler and Leah Karwic eager to show they belonged.  Gina Mattera took 5th place in a time of 20:01, which was her fastest time ever at Spring-Ford.  Morgan Chmielenski placed 15, Sarah Mathewson 16th, Maddie Hughes 21st and Leah Karwic 39th to round out the scoring.  

The girls score of 96 points was just 15 points off the pace of second place Spring-Ford, who placed 6th last season in a loaded district I championship meet.

The girls look to ride the momentum into their next meet against Great Valley and Haverford this coming Friday.
